STUDENTS

Every year (beginning of July) we organise a 2-week Summer school where students from outside of the Netherlands are also welcome to join. Make sure to check our website at the beginning of the year for the information on the topic and application deadlines. Summer schools are extracurricular activities so a course fee is involved.

Alternatively, check with your University for other possibilities to join (e.g. via Erasmus scholarships for Bachelor thesis research) and feel free to contact us to make a plan!

CAN I JOIN THE HUB IF I AM NOT FROM THE NETHERLANDS?

Yes, you can join as a student-teacher during a bachelor course by teaching and helping the students perform certain laboratory techniques. Furthermore, you can help with preparations for the course. This can be done on a full-time or part-time basis. If you wish to join during one of the Master internships, please first confirm with your daily supervisor if such involvement is possible. Finally, you can do an educational internship during your master (elective; for ECTS). You will get educational training and learn to supervise students in a lab.

If you have any other ideas how you would like to help, please do not hesitate to contact us!

CAN I JOIN THE HUB IF I AM A MASTER STUDENT?

RESEARCHERS

I DO NOT WANT TO SUBMIT A PROJECT BUT I WOULD STILL LIKE TO HELP IN THE HUB -- HOW CAN I DO THAT?

You can help within a course by, for example, offering certain expertise. This can be done directly in the Hub and/or in your own laboratory, depending on the technique. You can also help with guiding the students, giving feedback on written assignments, or participating in the discussions.

WHEN CAN I SUBMIT MY PROJECT FOR THE SCHEDULED COURSES IN PERIODS 1-4?

Call for proposals for the following academic year will be online by June at latest. Please keep an eye on our website (under News) for more information!

IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS WITHIN THE HUB (E.G. DIFFERENT PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATORS)?

Of course! Actually, we encourage that. The Bachelor Research Hub represents a place where, together with students, you can work on the existing or pilot projects, projects for which you otherwise would not have time to work on, as well as for collaborative projects. Interdisciplinary and/or international  projects are also encouraged and we are always open-minded for new concepts.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO WORK ON THE PROJECT IN THE HUB OUTSIDE THE SCHEDULED COURSES IN PERIODS 1-4?

There are many opportunities to join the Bachelor Research Hub outside the curriculum: you can submit a short project for a 2-week Summer school that takes place every year in the beginning of July, supervise an individual student/smaller student group for the research bachelor thesis  (2-7 weeks duration of a practical part) or individual throughout-the-year projects. For more information of all the possibilities, please refer to:

DO I NEED TO BE INVOLVED FULL-TIME? I AM A PHD STUDENT AND I WOULD LIKE TO SUBMIT A PROJECT TO THE HUB BUT I AM AFRAID IT WILL TAKE TOO MUCH OF MY TIME.

Being the expert in the field of the proposed project, it is beneficial to be available especially during the hypothesis formulation period (first two weeks of the course-based research) and for any project-specific techniques necessary. However, since there are many professionally-trained supervisors/researchers involved full-time in the Hub, you will still have time to do work unrelated to the course. The obtained data are for you! and can be used in your thesis.
